“The 2026 Ops Landscape for Independent Engineers”

The Ops world fragmented into a dozen paradigms. Clients ask for an MLOps engineer but mean entirely different things. Freelancers need to navigate what to learn, what to charge for, and what to ignore. This list is the map I built for myself and decided to maintain publicly.

Why this exists

I needed a reference. Every time a client asked me to set up their CI/CD pipeline, the question was really five questions: which CI/CD tool, which cloud provider, which orchestration layer, which observability stack, and which security scanners. The answers depend on the client’s size, budget, existing stack, and compliance requirements. There was no single resource that mapped all of this with freelance relevance.
